Deuteronomy 11:18-21 (NIV)

18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

These verses from Deuteronomy consistently show up on my top 10 favorite Bible verses.  With all the high-tech teaching tools on the market today… With all the fancy methods for sharing faith and instilling knowledge in our youth… God’s plan is simply: Keep my word before you, talk about it when you’re out-and-about, be an example to your children and surround yourself with the presence of God.  Simple, right?  I think we can all agree that this is easier said than done.  It’s hard to be a good example!  It’s hard to stay focused on God when there are so many other shiny objects along the way.  Yet, with every step, we are encouraged to follow God.  The law can help give us good boundaries and help give us a good model for our children to follow.  The law can point out where we fall short and remind us of our need for Jesus.  It is in the presence of God, his forgiveness and grace, that we are truly transformed. May you see God’s hand at work in your life today and may you know his grace.
