Romans 14:10-13 (NIV)
10 You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” 12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. 13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.
As the early church learned to follow Jesus and learned to live together as Christians, they struggled with the details. The same may be true of you and I: as modern-day Christians, we may struggle with exactly what it means to live in this culture and follow Jesus. As we follow Jesus together, let us always temper our conversations with love. Let us always assume the best of our fellow Christians. Let us strive to encourage one another in love and faith. As you live life with other Christians this day – at home, at work and on social media – let us be an encouraging cloud of witnesses rather than a sitting panel of judges.
