Philippians 2:1-5 (NIV)

Imitating Christ’s Humility
2 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Being humble is a tricky thing.  On its own, being humble means not considering yourself to be too important.  Humility is when the manager helps the team setup the conference room or clean up after the party.  Humility shows itself in those who are willing to serve others, regardless of their social status or position.  Philippians gives us this definition, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” (Phil 2:3) What does this look like for us today?  How can we honor others?  Today, consider humilityWhat is one thing you can do to honor another, to put their needs above your own?  In our house, this means putting down our devices when someone is talking to us… Let me be more specific: it means I put down my phone when my son is trying to tell me something. Sometimes I forget, but I want to put his need to be heard over my desire to check Facebook.  How can you honor someone today?
