Psalm 77:4-15 (NIV)
4 You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. 5 I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;
6 I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked: 7 “Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? 8 Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? 9 Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?” 10 Then I thought, “To this, I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. 11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. 12 I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” 13 Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? 14 You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. 15 With your mighty arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

What are the causes of worship/praise in each situation from today’s texts?

In what ways was praise given in this situation?

In which texts do you find “submissive praise”—praise offered in midst of pain, grief, etc.

What does this say to you about how we worship?  What might we add to our worship?

Heavenly Father, life is hard and there is so much brokenness. I look around me and see sickness, anger, hatred, loneliness, grief, disrespect for human life and for authority, and the list goes on.  Then add my personal challenges to that mix and It becomes heavy and overwhelming. I need You, Lord! Help me to not forget that You too went through the wilderness and deep valleys of sadness, pain, and anguish. You get it. Help me to remember all that You have done in the past when You guided me through the trouble, and lifted me up when I couldn’t do it myself. Help me to consider all Your works in my life, in the life of others and in this beautiful world. You have the master plan and You work all things for Your good according to that plan. Hold me close today. Guide my thoughts and my actions so that I move toward You. You have always been there for me in the past, I am confident that You are with me now and will be with me no matter what happens, You are in control. For that, I thank You and Praise You. I trust in Your ways for they are Holy. I submit my whole being and lift my eyes to focus only on You and not the chaos around me. You are an awesome God; worthy of praise and worship.  Great is Your faithfulness and I trust in You. Amen
