Matthew 8:18-22 (NIV)
18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” 21 Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
What is Jesus saying about life choices? In your lifestyle choices, how have you responded to temptations which have come to you?
Lord, You know my heart, my motives, and my desires. Like the man who hastily promised to follow You, possibly looking for the attention of the crowds instead of considering the cost to actually follow You, we can get caught up in the excitement of a cause in the moment and make promises to participate without dedicating our heart to really commit to the promises to serve. Help my motives be pure when I serve You, my commitments firm and to be ready to make personal sacrifices in Your name. Give me a willing heart and mind without excuse to do Your will. Amen
