Proverbs 7:1-5 (ESV)
Warning Against the Adulteress
7 My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; 2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; 3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend, 5 to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.
Last week we took a break, and learned about King David as an example of the relationship between God’s plans and our plans. This week we are going back to our journey through Proverbs. As chapter 7 begins, God urges us to pursue an intimate relationship with Wisdom. God’s “words,” “commandments,” “teaching,” “wisdom,” and “insight,” are different ways God speaks to us. When we treasure God’s voice like the apple of our eye, we are protected from listening to the tempting voices of foolishness.
