Psalm 29 (NIV)
A psalm of David.
1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. 3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. 5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. 8 The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!” 10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. 11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
What is the storm that blows through your life right now?
Almighty God, as we begin this new year, we are shrouded with uncertainty and fear. Today people are very wary of authority. You have glory and strength that far exceeds anyone on this earth. All authority, power, and strength belong to You. There is a vast spiritual hunger and need in our society. We need Your direction, Lord. The main way we hear Your voice is through the words of the Bible. Your Word is powerful and majestic. As I start this year on my knees, in humble recognition of Your greatness and the surpassing holiness of Your Word, open my heart to hear what You are saying to me today. As I listen to Your voice, You share Your authority and power with me. You know the future and guide me. As I seek Your voice, You speak to my heart through Your Holy Spirit. Through Your Word, You give me strength and bless me with Your Peace. Thank You that through Your Word, You will strengthen me for the battles I will face in this new year. As I listen to Your voice, You will provide me direction, certainty, and dissolve my fears. For You are with me. Give me Your peace in the midst of the storms in life. I submit to Your will in this coming year. Let the year 2021 be the year for renewal in the church and in the world. You are enthroned as King forever! Amen.
