Proverbs 1:1-9

“The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young— let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance— for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.”

The Incredible Blessing of Wisdom
One of the ways that God works in us, but does not seem to be as direct, is wisdom. The book of Proverbs is filled with wise, pithy sayings that spur us to think about what is right, good and true. Often people think to be “spiritual” means to have an ecstatic, emotional experience. But the Bible provides an abundance of examples and teachings on how wisdom, discipline, righteousness, and justice are “spiritual”. That an entire book of the Bible is devoted to wisdom shows how important it is to God! In your prayers, ask God to work “behind the scenes” to give you wisdom and understanding so that you would have good, godly, “spiritual” influence in your families, work-places, schools, neighborhoods, and everywhere you go.
