Genesis 1:31-2:4 (NIV)

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

Ever had a busy week? Work, errands, schoolwork, practices, family events, housework, yardwork, etc. Then on the weekend you feel exhausted, but there is still so much to do! In this passage God is pleased with all the work of the past week. Things have been busy, but good, “very good”. Now, it is time to take a step back and rest or “cease” from work. God is showing us that even though He doesn’t need rest he still takes time to. Yet we, weak and fragile as we are, think we don’t need rest. We fill up our days until we are run ragged and then blame God for our pain, stress, anxiety, and fear. Maybe we need God’s work and a little rest?
