Psalm 57:6-11 (NIV)
6 They spread a net for my feet—I was bowed down in distress. They dug a pit in my path—but they have fallen into it themselves. 7 My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. 8 Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. 9 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. 10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. 11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

What are the causes of worship/praise in each situation from today’s text?

In what ways was praise given in this situation?

Do you find “submissive praise”—praise offered in midst of pain, grief, etc?

What does this say to you about how we worship?  What might we add to our worship?

There are periods in life where things seem to be upside down. It feels like the bad guys are winning, when hate and deception are gaining, and when integrity is punished. When David fled from Saul for his life in a situation that was unfair, he remained steadfast in You. He knew he was loved by You and worshiped You even in unfair and difficult times. David believed that You are faithful and answer prayers. I am a child of God. I am Loved by You. Help my heart to remain steadfast in the midst of trials and distress, like that of David, even if the situation seems unfair. Allow me to respond to Your love by worshiping You with every gift that I have, not just when I feel like it but in difficult times as well. Lord thank You for your great love for me that reaches to the heavens and for Your faithfulness that reaches the skies. Amen.
