Daily Devotions – Our Testimony

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

“And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.”

I don’t know about you, but I love a good sermon. Hearing the word of God, his message and his mission, proclaimed clearly and passionately stirs my heart. While there is a place for the trained speaker… that is not God’s primary plan for sharing the gospel. Even Paul’s letters, like this one, were read aloud and discussed. Most of the work of sharing the gospel is done in those discussions; the one-on-one conversations about who God is and who God is to you. Simple, honest conversation, “so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power”. (1 Cor 2:5) This has not changed. God speaks not only through preachers and pastors, but through every believer. God is using you to share his message, to introduce people to Jesus. If someone asked you why you believe in God, what would you say? What if someone asked you why you go to church each weekend? Ponder these things and rejoice that you know such a great God.
