Colossians 3:12-14 (NIV)
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
When you get up in the morning and get ready to go to school or work or even if you stay at home with the kids or are retired you probably put on different clothes than what you slept in. You find things that match and will be appropriate for the tasks ahead of you that day. Paul is saying that as Christians, each day we, too, make choices about what we will “wear”. But instead of slacks or a dress we are choosing whether we will put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness and love. Those are the new clothes of righteousness. Today, ask Christ to clothe you with these new clothes. Let your spouse, children, grandchildren, parents, friends, neighbors, coworkers see these beautiful garments.
