Micah 7:5-7

“Do not trust a neighbor; put no confidence in a friend. Even with the woman who lies in your embrace guard the words of your lips. For a son dishonors his father,
a daughter rises up against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies are the members of his own household. But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.”

Personally, I am cynical by nature. If I’m not careful, it can become my default setting as I look at the world. When I read in Matthew 10:36, “a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household”, I am not surprised. The teeny-tiny print in my Bible tells me that this is a quote from Micah 7:6. So, my cynical side chides, God has been stirring up family relations for a long, long time. After all, we don’t have to look far to see discord within families centered around faith and belief. Yet, the prophet Micah does not stop with the discord, he continues. Even in the midst of family-fights, even when the world seems stacked against us, we cry out to God. Then, with Micah we can say, “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me”. (Micah 7.7) How is your world-view doing today? I invite you to do two things. First: name those people and situations in your day that are difficult or frustrating. Second: Pray and ask God for help (Dear God, help me with ___.) Now, together, let’s watch in hope for the Lord.
