Hebrews 10:32-34 (NIV)
32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34 You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.

They cheerfully accepted the plundering of their possessions. Could you? How?

Lord, I have to admit, I don’t think I am there. I am well aware of the fact that material things don’t buy happiness. I try to be generous and use what I have been given for Your glory. But to joyfully accept the confiscation of my property may be stretching it. I have not focused on wealth, but I have planned to be responsible with my possessions. I know people have lost everything in a tornado or fire and rejoice that life was spared. I get that. But to have someone just take what I earned would honestly give me an attitude. Help me to never have to experience such a thing, but if I do, prepare me to have the faith to be joyful in the promise of heavenly possessions that will never rot or be taken away. The earthly things don’t matter in the end anyway. Help me to mature my faith to be secure in that fact. I submit to Your will Amen.
