Ruth 3:6-9

“So she went down to the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law told her to do. When Boaz had finished eating and drinking and was in good spirits, he went over to lie down at the far end of the grain pile. Ruth approached quietly, uncovered his feet and lay down. In the middle of the night something startled the man; he turned—and there was a woman lying at his feet! “Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer of our family.””

In chapter 2 of this short book Boaz helped Ruth and prayed a blessing over her. Now, Ruth is returning with a proposal: “Boaz, you be the blessing!” She asks Boaz to be her “redeemer”. In Exodus 6:6 God uses this same word to say that He will redeem, or pay for, the Israelites to bring them out of slavery. Redemption is the work of God and Boaz has a chance to participate in that! God is active and working in the world. Let us pray that we would give our hearts over to Him and participate with Him in the divine work of blessing others, rather than seeking our own will and resisting His love and redemption.
