1 John 5:10-12 (NIV)

10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Immediately following last Sunday’s reading and preceding next Sunday’s reading, John takes a moment to summarize his teaching on the true source of life. The true source of life is God’s Son. If we receive Jesus’ testimony about himself, believing that he has been sent from God, we enter into a saving relationship with him, and we have life. This is the victory God wants us to have. Victory isn’t riches or health or winning a game; victory is having friends in the highest places, heaven itself. Victory is having the love of God poured into our hearts. That’s what it means to ‘have the Son.’ It means having Jesus on our side as our friend, protector, savior. Pray for the faith to always receive Jesus.
