Daily Devotions – Have the Same Mindset as Christ Jesus

Click this link to hear an audio version of the below text narrated by SOTH member Jerry Rhinehart:

Philippians 2:3-11 (NIV)
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

1. For each day, read the text and write down one or two points that stand out to you.
2. At the end of the week, look and pray over your points, and pick one that stands out to you.
3. What will you do to apply that point/truth to your life? Write that out also.
4. Store your notes and application somewhere where you will find them again and see how you are doing in your application of that truth. Note on your calendar when you’ll check it.

Lord, it has become common for people to be selfish, angry and rude to one another. There is a total disregard for the needs of others, instead, there is manipulation, cheating and lying to get the advantage or get noticed. It deeply saddens me. Paul explains how we are to act as Christians. Help each of us in our church stand out as an example to the world by the way we act together. A Christ-like attitude is key to unity. Allow Shepherd of the Hills to be one place that shines Your love and spawns kindness and respect.  Help our congregation join together to continue to reach out and serve those in need. Build relationships inside the church to give us strength as we try to live like Jesus outside the church.  As we grow in unity and love with each other, allow our love to expand out into our families, the community, our workplaces and into the world. Allow people in the dark to be drawn to the light Your great love so that they too may come to know You.  Help us glorify You by following Christ in His humble service and selfless Love. Lord start with me to have the same attitude as Jesus. Amen
