Matthew 10:5-6 (NIV)
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

What change in ministry focus for the disciples did Jesus make? What was Jesus’ promise on which the disciples needed to rely?

Holy God, You had a big plan for the disciples that they were not yet ready to carry out. You developed their skills by sending them out among their own people to build confidence and to learn to trust You before You exposed Your bigger plan of sending them to all nations. Lord, likewise, You know my skills and my weaknesses. You have a plan for me. Forgive me for my lack of patience and my desire to be significant. Help me to not be discouraged or frustrated when I am faced with seemingly menial tasks requiring obedience or challenging situations requiring trust. Let me see what I need to learn by the challenges in my life and prepare me so I can be exposed to Your bigger plan. I do not know Your plan, but I trust that as I continue to serve You every day, following Your will in the best way that I can, that You will guide me toward Your plan for my life. Whatever that plan is, big or small, I pray that I am fruitful, that I am faithful to it and my life brings glory to You. Amen
