Psalm 127
A song of ascents. Of Solomon.
1 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves. 3 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

This story is all about a normal, dysfunctional family. Sure, you have never sold your brother into slavery, but there were probably times you wanted to! But something that is often missed when reading the Bible is that God cares about what happens in the midst of our ordinary lives. Martin Luther once said: “God with all his angels and creatures is smiling – not because the father or mother is washing diapers, but because he is doing so in Christian faith.” Have you ever thought of that before? When you serve your family, you are glorifying God. When you change a diaper, you are glorifying God. When you wash the dishes, you are glorifying God. God cares about you and He is glorified when you live each day in faith!
