Daily Devotions – False Worship

Romans 1:21-25 (ESV)

21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

At the heart of sin is false worship. We all worship something. Maybe we do not go about singing songs to things like trees or the moon and stars, but we act is if people and things in our lives created by God are more important than the One who created them. The Creator is the only one truly worthy of praise. Is there something in your life, created by God, that you put before Him? Do you trust him completely? What created things might be standing in the way of you growing in your relationship with the Creator? The rest of the week we will look at different ways we practice false worship so that we might turn our hearts back to the only one worthy of all our worship and praise.
