Galatians 3:26-29 (NIV)
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
In his letter to the Christians living in Galatia, Paul has pointed out that what they need from God is not more rules. Rules are good and helpful, but what they need is something, or someone, to cover their sins! No rule or good behavior can cover sin. For a while we might be able to put on a show for everyone to see, but God sees completely. Like Adam and Eve, we are completely vulnerable before God. We, too, need God’s mercy in order to live. When Jesus arrived that is what we received. We were given “new clothes” to wear. Clothes of mercy, grace, forgiveness, peace, reconciliation and new life. And when we are clothed with the goodness and righteousness of Jesus, all God sees is His beloved children.
