Psalm 125 (NIV)
A song of ascents.
1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. 2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore. 3 The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil. 4 Lord, do good to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart. 5 But those who turn to crooked ways the Lord will banish with the evildoers. Peace be on Israel.
Our lives are a daily up and down, good and bad, joys and sorrows. We read passages in the Bible like Psalm 125 that talk of being immovable or rock solid and wonder if that will ever apply to our lives! But as Eugene Peterson points out: “we are always God’s people.” That is rock solid and immovable. As you go through your day today and experience highs and lows, remember that your identity as a beloved child of God is secure and firm because of Jesus Christ. “Peace be on Israel” and God’s peace be on you (Psalm 125:5).
