Romans 12:17-21

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Growing up, I remember that I was always trying to be “good,” mostly because I didn’t like getting into trouble. Today, God calls us to a whole new level of goodness.  Our instructions: “Do not repay anyone evil for evil… Do not take revenge… Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom 12:17-21) In the face of a frustrating boss, a FaceBook troll, a bully at school… this is a tall order!  Call to mind one person that frustrates you.  What would it mean to “live at peace” with this person?  What would it mean to repay their actions with grace and goodness?  My challenge for you, this day, is to say a little prayer for the person that you’ve called to mind: “Dear God in heaven, please bless _________ and teach me how to show them grace and kindness.  Amen.”  Give it a try. See what God does.
