The Richfield Area Operation Christmas Child Group held a shoe box packing event on Saturday, November 12 at Shepherd of the Hills. Our church was filled with excitement, teamwork and fellowship of 170 volunteers. We packed 1,100 shoeboxes. These shoeboxes will be distributed to needy children in Madagascar, Namibia, Saint Lucia, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Operation Christmas Child will add a Gospel message booklet to each box. Over 1,100 children will be delighted by these shoe box gifts. They will have the opportunity to learn about God’s love for them and Jesus’ gift of salvation. We pray that the Holy Spirit will touch their hearts and bring them to faith. Each child that receives a shoe box generally shares the contents of their box and the Gospel message with an average of 10 other people. These 1,100 boxes packed at SOTH have the power to reach 11,000 souls for Christ! Now that’s the power of a Simple Gift!
Here are a few facts about the work of Operation Christmas Child.
- Last year – 11 million boxes were distributed to needy children in 109 countries
- In the past 6 years – 3.3 million children have prayed to accept Jesus as their Savior through Operation Christmas Child’s follow-up program, “The Greatest Journey.”
Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising events, donated gift items and monetary gifts to cover shipping costs or attended our packing event!
We focus our shoebox gift collection efforts by featuring a few different items each month throughout the year. Donations can be placed in our box by the Food Pantry Shelves.

“It’s good for me to do things out of my comfort zone. Helping at the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Packing Event has been a great way to meet and get to know my church family better. We are all working together for a wonderful cause. It makes me realize how blessed I am and as God’s blessings on each of these children.”
