Proverbs 11:2 (NIV)
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
From this verse, what benefits are derived from humility?
Which of the following or other benefits have you received?
Lord, it is so easy to get caught up with self-assertion and self-confidence especially as careers are being built, kids are being raised, or assets are being accumulated. That is what society measures as success these days, isn’t it? But Lord, You know that if my focus is on what my title is, how big my house is or what I have accumulated, it only leads to pride. With pride, there will always be a temptation to compare and compete with those at a higher level and to look down at those at a lower level of society. That sin only leads to an exhausting climb to unachievable goals and the associated fears of losing it all along with potential temptations to corruptly speed up the process. The end result is emptiness and disgrace. Lord help me to not go there. Clear my motives to be humble and pure with integrity. Help me to do the best that I can do, with the gifts that You have given me. Thank You for the accomplishments and possessions that You have helped me to achieve and to be content and satisfied with them. Give me the discernment to listen to Your voice, to spend my time and finances in a manner that fits your will, and reward me with Your gifts of wisdom, peace, and grace. Amen
