Luke 24:44-49 (NIV)
44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

As we close out the week and come closer to Sunday we see in this passage that Jesus has given his church work to do: preaching! Jesus did the hard work of saving and we are called to preach. Not everyone is called to be a pastor who stands up in public to preach, but each of us have people in our midst that need to hear they are forgiven by Jesus, who need to be given grace instead of condemnation, and who need to hear that God loves them. Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to “clothe us with power from on high” so that we can fulfill our calling as a church to love others by proclaiming God’s love and forgiveness to others through all we say and do.
