Psalm 107:1-9 (NIV)

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. 6 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. 8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

Happy Thanksgiving Day!  Regardless of your plans for this special day – a giant meal with family and friends or a quiet meal out – let us first pause and praise our God.  In the midst of trouble and hardship, our God is faithful.  He seeks to comfort us and hold us up.  Amid confusion and discouragement, God brings holy wisdom.  In times of loss and distress, our God calls our hearts home and brings peace and grace.  And if these gifts of God’s presence are hard to find, we gather together and wait on the Lord.  Let us be thankful for our God who is with us in times of trouble.  Yet, our God is also with us in the midst of joy and celebration, as we gather and share our lives, in the midst of service and worship!  Let us be thankful to God for every good gift, for every moment of grace and every glimmer of joy.  “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” (Ps 107:1) Amen!
